Sun, Sun, Mr Golden Sun

Maia is now officially a toddler: she can't get enough of Raffi. I had forgotten this stage as well as the horrid versions of Mary Had a Little Lamb, This Old Man and Paddycake, Paddycake. Can anyone recommend a cd with classic kids songs that won't drive me to the loopy bin? No London Bridge in operatic style, no Shakespearean renditions of We're Going on a Bear Hunt and absolutely no rock versions of I'm a Little Teapot. On second thought, maybe Raffi isn't that bad after all.

The song of his that is most apropos these days is the one where we all beg the sun to please, please shine down on us. Higher latitudes, low dietary intake (can't eat fish every dang day) along with low sun exposure can add up to Vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D deficiency is common in Wisconsin and is associated with skeletal fragility, muscle weakness, heart ailments, autoimmune diseases and cancer as well as brain function and mood. The recommended supplement is approximately 1000 iud daily, possible higher. So we pop our oily gel caps, skip the sunscreen and seek out sunshine, wherever we can get it: as it shines through our windshields as we drive, reflects off the banks of new snow, and while we sit by windows and listen to Raffi, of course.
